Spunaloy’s journey began after World War II with Ray Davy, who founded a business specializing in centrifugal casting. In 1949, Ray moved to Ourimbah and established the foundry, leveraging his extensive engineering expertise to perfect the casting process. Over the years, Spunaloy expanded its services to meet the growing demands of local contractors, evolving into both a foundry and an engineering workshop. Following Ray’s retirement in 1982, the business was split, with his son Warren acquiring the foundry, and the machine shop being sold but staying under the same roof.
By 1989, Darryl Neil joined the machine shop but not too long after it closed. He was then hired by Warren to manage its accounts. When warren retired in 2007 , Darryl took over the business, steering Spunaloy to new heights while fostering a culture of quality and innovation. He contributed significantly to the business’s stability and growth, especially as competition diminished. His son Joseph joined in 2008, completing his apprenticeship and dedicating himself to the company. In 2023, Darryl passed the torch to Joseph, ensuring a seamless transition and a secure future for Spunaloy. With his technical expertise, deep commitment to the team, and vision for growth, Joseph now leads Spunaloy into its next chapter, carrying forward its legacy of excellence and integrity.
